About the education

At SMA International Makeup Academy, we offer an international and professional education for aspiring makeup artists and hairstylists who are passionate about building a successful career in the beauty industry. Our programs are designed by internationally experienced founders and educators, combining creative artistry, hands-on training, and industry standards. Through intensive practical learning, portfolio development, and personalized guidance, students gain the skills, confidence, and professional knowledge needed to succeed both nationally and internationally.

Our Instructors

Our instructors have either completed the SMA International curriculum themselves or have been professionally trained according to our international standards, giving them a deep understanding of our teaching methods and expectations. Friendly, approachable, and highly supportive, our educators are passionate about guiding each student throughout their journey at SMA, providing individual attention, encouragement, and mentorship every step of the way.

What will you learn

Our programs are designed to take you from a complete beginner to a confident, industry-ready makeup artist. Every course begins with strong fundamentals, including product knowledge, skin preparation, colour theory, application techniques, hygiene, and professional practices.

Depending on your chosen program, you can continue your education and specialise in subjects such as Beauty Makeup, Airbrush Makeup, Bridal Makeup, Fashion & Editorial Makeup, Fantasy Face & Body Painting, Hairstyling, and Sari Draping. Each speciality follows a comprehensive curriculum that combines creativity, hands-on practice, and professional techniques, allowing you to develop the skills and confidence to pursue your desired career path in the beauty industry.

Examinations and certifications

Upon successful completion, students are awarded certifications authorized and recognized by SMA International and the PBA Group Organization. Built upon international curriculum, techniques, and professional standards, our education equips graduates with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to pursue opportunities within the global beauty industry.

International Curriculum

Our curriculum is internationally designed and developed by the European founders Hilde M.Johansen and Eva B.Thomsen plus educators who were part of the birth and establishment of SMA Makeup Academy. Built on extensive global industry experience, the program follows international techniques, teaching methods, and professional standards that have been implemented and refined through years of education within the beauty industry.

To ensure our education remains relevant and forward-thinking, the curriculum is continuously reviewed, updated, and upgraded in line with changing beauty trends, new techniques, and industry developments. This allows our students to receive a modern, globally aligned education that prepares them to confidently work within the ever-evolving international beauty industry.

After Care

All students enrolled in our long-term P-programs will receive a complimentary Aftercare Program for free with a validity of one year.

As makeup artistry is constantly evolving with new trends, techniques, and industry innovations, we believe it is important for our graduates to continue learning and stay updated. During this period, students are welcome to return to the academy and re-study their desired subjects to refresh, update, or upgrade their skills and knowledge. Whether you wish to revisit beauty techniques, bridal trends, fashion makeup, hairstyling, or any other subjects that were included in your graduated program, our doors remain open to support your continuous growth and development as a makeup artist.

Inclusions

Course inclusions vary depending on the program you choose to enrol in. In our long-term programs, students receive a range of professional benefits, including a professional brush set and a tool kit, portfolio photoshoots with professional photographers and models, and additional learning resources designed to support your education and career development.

As inclusions may differ across our short-term and specialised courses, we encourage you to contact our admissions team for detailed information about what is included in your chosen program.

Do I need to bring anything?

All course fees include professional makeup products provided by the academy for training purposes. We do not require students to bring their own makeup products, as our education is designed to give students hands-on experience with a variety of product textures, formulations, and application techniques. Under the guidance of our trainers, students learn to work with professionally selected products and understand how to adapt their techniques to different products and finishes. This approach ensures a complete, practical, and well-rounded learning experience that prepares students for real-life work in the beauty industry.

Students are only required to bring a few personal items for hygiene and individual use, such as their own makeup remover, moisturizer, mascara, and disposable hygiene essentials including cotton pads and cotton buds. This helps maintain professional hygiene standards and ensures that personal-use products remain individual to each student.

What is the time duration?

Fulltime courses: 10am – 17.00pm, Monday to Friday
Part time courses: 10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm or 6pm-21pm
Weekend course: 11am- 14pm

Job placements

At SMA, your journey doesn’t end in the classroom. Through our industry network and job platform, students may gain access to freelance projects, salon positions, retail opportunities, and other beauty industry experiences.
