Key Considerations
- Admissions: Open now; early booking is recommended as seats fill quickly.
- Exams: Students must prepare costumes, jewellery, and accessories for their portfolio shoot (academy provides assistance).
- International Exposure: SMA Bangkok attracts students from over 30 countries, making it a diverse learning environment
Things to Keep in Mind
- Costs: Fees are quoted in Thai Baht (THB). If you’re joining from India, factor in currency conversion and travel expenses.
- Duration Commitment: Programs range from 5 days to 6 weeks, so plan accommodation and visa accordingly.
- Portfolio Requirements: The practical exam is portfolio-based, which is crucial for future career opportunities.
International Student Considerations for SMA Bangkok
- Visa & Immigration
Most students will need a Thai education visa (Non-Immigrant ED visa) for longer programs.
Short courses (under 30 days) may be possible on a tourist visa, depending on nationality.
Always check country-specific requirements with the Thai consulate in your home country. - Accommodation
Bangkok offers a wide range: budget hostels, serviced apartments, and mid-range hotels.
Areas near the academy (central Bangkok) are popular with students for convenience.
Monthly rentals can be cheaper than daily hotel stays if your program is 4–6 weeks. - Cultural Adaptation
SMA’s diverse student body means you’ll be learning alongside peers from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
English is the main medium of instruction, but Thai basics (like greetings) help in daily life.
Respect for Thai customs (dress modestly, polite behavior in temples) is appreciated. - Networking & Career
The international mix is a huge advantage — you’ll build a global portfolio and contacts.
Portfolio shoots often include collaboration with professional photographers and models, giving exposure beyond your home market. - Financial Planning
Fees are in Thai Baht (THB); factor in exchange rates and international transfer fees.
Living costs in Bangkok are moderate compared to Western cities — food and transport are affordable, but imported products can be pricey.
Practical Tip
Many students combine their course with travel in Thailand. Since classmates come from dozens of countries, group trips to places like Phuket, Chiang Mai, or Koh Samui are common after the program ends — a great way to bond and expand your network.
